Fishing Report By Capt'n Mike and Friends:   Email Reports to  gobler@caprock-spur.com

Temp 48*

12/29/04  Got a few good reports to pass on, but not many people trying.  There have been some keeper crappie caught on the crappie house. and some 2-5 bass caught at about 20 ft., lizzards and  cranks are what is working.  Capt'n Mike

12/21/25  Well the month of December was nothing to brag about, and with the new cold weather expected today and into the weekend it is defiantly not going to improve over Christmas.  The lake is beautiful at it current depth, it has made more of Lubbock's property easier for the bank fisherman as well expanding into the new growth.  This is were the lake will be normally, in the summer on 100* days it loses about 1/2ft. per week and in the winter about 1/8ft. per week.  So if we are 12 weeks away from good fishing it will it will be about 2221.  That  will  be a new lake to alot of you this spring, if we do not get any more precipitation but understand that there are springs and creeks running into the lake that have not ran for years.   I am from the area and this has been the wettest year sense the early 60s.  I feel like this going to be the year for Lake Alan Henry, its 10 years old and is very healthy.  So I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.  Hope Santa brings you everything you want in the way of fishing gear.  Capt'n Mike

11/29/03  Talking to a friend, who fished both Saturday and Sunday, said Saturday was the best with an 8# caught on a white buzz bait. With this cold weather coming in things will go deeper but the long range calls for a warm up.  The crappie for the brave ones are responding to the cooler water.  Capt'n Mike

11/24/04  Happy Thanksgiving, maybe it will stop raining and I can go fishing.  Capt'n Mike

11/18/04  Sounds like the catfishing has been good.  The bas before the rain were active on white buzz baits, I think it should still be the thing in the new brush.  I meet Mike in the following fishing report at Academy Sports yesterday, I told him the first part of the ramp going to the crappie house was under water but he decided to go anyway now this is a fisherman.  Capt'n Mike

Hey mike,

It was good seeing you in Academy. I'm glad I can put a face to your name now. I knew I would run into you some day. Anyways, I did go to the lake tonight. I ran into some guys pulling their boat up when I got there. They must have caught 30 catfish. He had a couple that were over 20 pounds, he said they were catching them on shad at the very bottom. Im sure they will be up all night cleaning those fish. I was lucky enough to get them to take me to the crappie house. I didnt know the lights werent working. I basically was in the worst conditions possible. It was pouring rain off and on for a couple of hours and had a real hard time seeing if I was getting a bite or not. When I finally had enough, I was the only soul out there. I had to strip down into my swiwsuit (which I wouldnt have brought if I wouldnt have seen you) and get in that cold ass water so I could make it to the parking lot. At 6'5, the water came all the way up to my sternum. Im either one crazy SOB or I just love fishing. I didnt catch any fish, didnt have anyone to talk to, got soaking wet, but still had a great time. Man I love this lake!

Mike Modisett

p.s. I've never gone catfishing before and would love to try it. If you ever go out there and dont have anyone with you, I would love to go. It sounds like you really know what your talking about

11/15/04  As of my last report this morning you had better not get to close to the spill way, the lake at present is nearly 3ft above  the spill way, and hwy 84 bridge is  with in a foot of being in the water [ 11 am] .  I bet Lubbock regrets not  spending a little money and moving the dock up, what a city council.  Capt'n Mike

11/15/04  Well if I were crazy enough to be out in this rain, I would be fishing by the flood gate, or up river in the red water.  Man has it be raining. looks like East Texas.  Three inches last night and rained all day, the lake is 1 1/2 ft above the spill way and by morning may be more.  Capt'n Mike

11/10/04  Some small action, but nothing to brag about lots of 6 and 7# ers.  The catfishing has been good and the crappie are sure picky.  Capt'n Mike

This channelcat was caught at about 7:00 PM on Sat. 11/6/04.  It was 30"
long and weighed in at 18lbs. Geat fun on a medium action rod. Also
managed to bring in 6 nice crappie.

Marlin Marcum

11/01/04  Well for Dustin Garner it was a good Sunday Morning, catching a 10# black bass in the early morning and on the same rod and reel later that morning a 31# flathead.  Capt'n Mike

10/29/04  The coldest weather of the season is due in Monday night, it might be a good weekend to forget the election, and think life sure is good in the ole USA, especially with a good day at the lake.  Top water and Buzz baits are working.  The night of the cold front is my bet on Crappie but this weekend they might turn on too.  Capt'n Mike

The crappie are starting to be more active. I was at the docks last night it conditions that weren't favoring a successful night. I caught 6 crappie, 2 were keepers and I also caught this 6 pound bass. Not only did I catch it in the crappie house off a crappie minnow; I caught it off a crappie rig as well. He must have been having an identity crisis. Also, a man I was talking to at the dock caught an 11 pound carp. We thought it was a big cat the way it was fighting, but were sorely dissapointed. Good luck to all!

10/25/04  Looks like the top water and especially buzz baits are the ticket, right now.  The crappie are showing some promise, it may take a real cold spell to really turn them on, but at night at the crappie house they have been reporting some good catches.  Personally I think the banks of Lubbock's property are going to be good crappie fishing this fall.  Capt'n Mike

10/18/04  It took two fish to win the tournament Saturday, combined weight 8#, no cigar.  Maybe this is the week, maybe not,  my plans to fish last week were haulted by a fall that messed up my shoulder, bummer.  The crappie were small and the catfish few.  It will get better this fall.  Capt'n Mike

10/15/04  If anybody knows anything about the story below please contact.  Capt'n Mike

Subject: honda generator

fished 9-28-04    after using my honda gernerator to heat up my lunch in the microwave, I had a Senior Moment and left
the generator sitting on the ramp outside my truckand went back fishing.Needless to say I thought I had put it away and
didn't discover it missing until I got home 10-1 Talk about a shock when I went to take it out. I hope The SOB that removed it dosen't get old and suffer any senior moments.

10/09/04  Most everyone said fishing was bad, but a few folks had some luck with big ones getting away.  These guys were fishing up gobler and rocky, said white buzz and spinners were working. The water temp is about write, I think this is the week to fish, anyhow that's going to be my excuse.  Capt'n Mike

10/05/04  Well its about to happen folks the water temp is coming down, I bet by the weekend we start to see some real improvement.  Capt'n Mike

Fishing was slow at the lake today with only a few showers to get you wet.  Water temp on the main lake West of the ramp was 70 Deg.

We caught several small bass on white spinner baits during the day.  About 8 AM I caught a nice 6 - 13 on a white buzz bait.

Thanks for your web site.

Jim Caddell - Lubbock

10/03/04  Its running over the spillway today for the first time, there were about 20 hard core fishermen on the lake in the rain at noon.  Capt'n Mike

Graph of Elevation above NGVD 1929, feet

09/28/04  Seems to be improving, some top water action on buzz baits and worming off the points with motor oil colored plastics.  An 8.25 bass won one of the private tournaments this weekend.  The lake has been catching some water.  Capt'n Mike

09/ 20/04  Well what ya think about the good ole boys on the Lubbock City Council, all the amenities that they have promised the people that support the lake by the high prices they pay at the gate just got scr_wed, by these two inconsiderate counsel men, talk about take the money and run,  remember when you vote next time, if you are from Lubbock, the names of, Gary Boren  gboren@mail.ci.lubbock.tx.us, and Tom Martin  tmartin@mail.ci.lubbock.tx.us.

09/10/04  Caught this deer waiting for a beer at Backside Beverage that is closed on hwy 84 turn off to the lake, yes that's my dog making friends.  Capt'n Mike

09/09/04  It's been a little slow with the clear days, but there have been a few good fish caught.  A friend caught an 8#er on a motor oil worm, worming straight down in the brush.  The catfish and crappie are picking up at night with the cool weather.  Capt'n Mike

08/23/04  Boy has it been cool for August.  I would bet that this fall is going to be sooner than expected.  Hope that means a prolonged good fishing season.  Capt'n Mike

My Friends caught this ten pound catfish Wednesday night on punch bait.
I love your site, keep up the great work!
Dwain

Went out last week and caught 5 or 6 on topwaters (yellow magic), and flukes early.  All little, with biggest going about 2.5 lbs.  When it got hot caught 2 or 3 more on 4 in. finesse worms in about 10-15 foot off main lake points.
The highlight of the day was when we looked up and saw these 2 Gray Foxes roaming the bluff above us.  These foxes were down before you get to Gobbler Creek. I really love this beautiful lake.

Me & Grace didn't get to the lake til 11:00 (8/20/04) and could not buy a bite. Did not see anyone else having any luck either. We threw worms, top water and sluggo's and coors lite at them. Nothing. Weather was great and really enjoyed just being on the lake. Gonna try it again real soon.

                                                  Jimmy

08/20/04  We got 4 tenths of rain last night cool and cloudy at 9am.  I bet the fishing is good, can't go but good reports coming in.  At least till tonight.  Capt'n Mike

08/17/04  Good reports all week on fishing, sorry my computer has been down.  The crappie havc been biting at night under lights and the bass in the mornings on top water.  Capt. Mike Lake Levels

Mike I had the best top water morning ever Saturday morning. Nothing of size but when top water action lasts almost 3 hours you don't complain. The biggest was about 2.5 around 17.5 inches. The Pop - R was doing the job well. A couple hit it so hard they swallowed both trebles. There was a lot of shad schooling back in the creeks, it wont be long till they move out to the main lake points. The creeks were a little stained but clear to 2 feet. Didn't get a temp reading but the water felt like it was in the low 80s. The parking lot was awful empty this weekend to bad it takes a days allowance to get in the gate and load a boat on the ramp. A lot of the West Texas Lakes have caught a lot of water this year. wonder if Alan Henry will make it over the spillway this month. Lets fill her up the lakes profile changes every time it rises, glad to see it finally toping out.
                                    Paul
If in doubt set the hook!!!!!!!!!!

08/04/04  This is a nice flathead caught by Dustin Garner, weight 30# on light tackle.  This should be a lake record for a flathead on a rod and reel out of this lake.  Capt'n Mike

07/30/04  It's spreading out, there will definatly be new territory fish this fall.  Catfish are biting in the red water up stream.  Here is a big opp caught by Clancy and Dale Fulton yesterday, good fish in the 30# range.   Capt'n Mike

Graph of

107/29/04  It's a brand new lake, the recent rains have pushed the level up 2 1/2 ft. as of 9AM this morning that makes it 2ft from going out the spillway..  I am sure the catfish are biting in the muddy water.  This should produce an excellant fall season for the bass.  As of Sunday the bass fishing was rather good.  Capt'n Mike

07/12/04  Not much going on fishing wise, everything has been slow.  The lake is at an all time high, Lake Levels , and is sure looking good.  Everyone be careful the are allot of skiing action going on and it was about this time last year my boat go speared by a seedoo, luckily no one was injuried.  Things can happen real fast on the water so always use a little more caution out there.  Capt'n Mike

07/09/04  Fishing in the mornings is the best for bass right now,  try worms, spinners and even top water early and late.  The catfishing is good at night as well as the crappie under lights.  Capt'n Mike

6/29/04  Lots of small bass being caught with a few of the 8-10 range, mostly caught on live bait or plastic worms.  There have been some good reports on catfish up to 31#, with most of the crappie action at night.  Capt''n Mike

06/19/04  The fish are biting, good reports all over the lake this morning, bass and catfish.  Capt'n Mike

06/18/04  The bass are small biting on worms and spinners with the crappie and catfish good at night.  The lake area got a pretty good rain yesterday and has caught about a 1/2ft of water.  The following graph is from the USGS.  Capt'n Mike

.Graph of

06/13/04  Sure some big ole yeller's {flathead} come out of this lake.  This one was 22.5 caught by Tim Bagget and Deborah Burk.  Capt'n Mike

06/09/04  The crappie and catfish are biting at night, crappie under lights late.   White spinners and top water seem to be the ticket on bass morning and afternoon.  Lots of vacationers will be at the lake this weekend, remember watch out for the other guy.  Capt'n Mike

06/07/04  The lake caught about a 1/2ft. of water, I sure feel sorry for the ones that road to the storms out Friday and Saturday night on the lake.  I bet they had an exciting time.  Remember this lake can be tricky when storms come in they are on you before you can get to safety, if you are not careful.  The fishing was real bad this past week, its got to get better.  Catfishing was about the only thing happening.  Capt'n Mike

06/01/04  Well it was a windy and non productive holiday for the fisherman, I heard of one 10# bass being caught, but most were small.  Several good reports on keeper crappie and I caught a 22.5# flathead and several good channel cats.  The parking lot was never full when I was there, it seems like people go to other lakes on the holidays for some reason or maybe it was graduation weekend.  Capt'n Mike

 Cap'n Mike,

I caught these two about 10:00 Sunday morning (May 30). The large one weighted 8.5 lbs and the smaller one 3.5 lbs. they were caught up in Big Grape in about 10 feet of water.

 Joe McDowell
Levelland, Texas

Hey Mike,

Well college ended and i gave Lake Alan Henry one more go. I caught quite a few keeper crappie (8) and two bass off the dock last week. On a lighter note, a strong gust of wind blew my "open" tackle box into the water. If anyone happens to catch a gold state championship ring in the crappie house, its mine, I had just taken it off and put in it my tackle box when the wind blew it in!

Mike Modisett

05/27/04  Lots of people heading to the lake this Memorial Day Weekend, remember use a little extra caution on the water especially  on Holidays.  Last year one Sunday afternoon we were speared by a seadoo, doing $1300 worth of damage to my boat.  Luck was with us and no one was hurt.  I was using that extra caution by slowing down to a crawl outside of the no wake zone it was real busy, he was jumping another boat wake and did not see us. If he had not hit under the cap of the boat he would have been on top of us.  This only took seconds it can happen to anyone, please be careful..

Fishing has been a little better, more being caught but not much size.  It should catch some water, with the thunderstorms around today. Capt'n Mike

PS.  Smile you are being photographed at the boat ramp this weekend, it is usually set up across from the boat ramp on the other side on Holidays..

05/21/04  Still some nice bass coming out but they have been few and far between.  Crappie is only good at night, with the warm weather the catfishing has been improving.  Capt'n Mike

Mike,
This fish was caught on 5-15-04 in about 12-15 foot of water (did not see her)......it weighed 10.60#.....25" in length.....18 1/4" in girth...there are always big fish to catch at Alan Henry.
Thanks!    Jared

05/18/04  Mostly little bass being caught, the party is over for the spawn, worms and plastic grubs are what is working now.  The people who are catching crappie are fishing at night with the green drop in the water lights, some good stringers are being caught after midnight.   Capt'n Mike

05/10/04  The spawn is just about over, they are getting picky again, maybe a good rain is in order.  Seems that we are catching more keeper crappie than in years past but it is still nothing to brag about.  The catfishing should really pick up this month.  Capt'n Mike

we had a total stringer of 27 Lb.s that day

05/04/04  The good news is fishing is good when the cold fronts are not coming in and the wind is not blowing, but the fishing is still pretty good even then if you can stand it.  The crappie being caught are bigger this year or maybe my wife is just lucky she has been boating more keepers than ever before, I did not say I was though.  I think this week might be good for crappie as it is going to stay warm.  Capt'n Mike

This is the result from the KQBR Bass for Cash a few weeks ago.   www.kqbr.com/'04bass.htm

Caught some good fish on 4/26 sight fishing.  The best was 12.03.  This lake is absolutely incredible.  Every time that I've been down here this spring I've seen at least a 10 in the water, and heard about at least a 10 caught that day.  Let's all hope and pray that it'll continue for years to come

i was fishing off the docks last night and caught 8 keeper crappie...half of them were dark with black on them...the other half were light (white)...what does this mean or signify?  Mike Modsett

Mike:
We fished Saturday night and caught some keeper crappie.  They seemed to be all males, and still very light colored. I think we are still a little early as we didn't catch any keepers with eggs in them  and the males hadn't colored up yet.
Jerry

04/27/04  The wind has been a factor in the sight fishing, but the lake continues to produce big bass, the crappie are getting bigger too.  The bass have been a little pickyer this week.  Capt'n Mike

04/25/04  Sure looking good this morning as a great fishing day here, it's 62* at 9:25 Sunday morning with no wind or for those who know the windmills are barely turning.  If it stays like this it should produce some outstanding bass today.  Not bad yesterday but as you know the weather was a factor.  A little over 12# was the winner in both tournaments, but as good as it has been, the day was disappointing.  The crappie are still hiding probably a little cold, but the catfishing has been good. Here's some of the catch on a disappointing day,   Capt'n Mike

Hey Mike, here's another big one, about a twelve. Released.  I caught her from shore before the front came through on Thursday.  The coves have been great for sight fishing-anywhere you can get out of the wind, and see into the water a little ways is going to be good.-David

04/23/04  It's 9pm and everything has went to hell.  The wind is blowing and the temperature has dropped.  There still should be some good fish caught tomorrow but it want be pretty.  Forecast is for 66* for the high.    Capt'n Mike

04/22/04  Its 68* in Justiceburg right now at 9pm Thursday night, I was told that the bass definitely moving in more shallow water today.  Its going to cool off tonight but I still think if you are making payments on that boat gathering dust, this is one weekend that you should get off of your ___ and go fishing.  Capt'n Mike

04/21/04  Sure some big fish coming out of the lake, this proves you do not have to have a boat to catch a big one.  Capt'n Mike

My Name is David Collins.  My friend Micah Bigby and I went fishing on the 20th and I caught a 7.5 and this 10.05lb. bass.  We were fishing the beds from shore. Lake Alan Henry is great lake for big bass during the spawn.

04/20/04  The weekend was not what it was cracked up to be, but the bass are still on the beds and fishing is good.  It is the wind and clouds that are not cooperating.  Capt'n mike

These are some pictures of the 40lbs+ stringer that we caught earlier this month during the Suncountry tournament on Sunday.  The Saturday stringer of 32lbs was just as impressive and we had a total of over 73lbs for the weekend.

04/16/04  Some having luck some not, it seems the site fishermen are bunching up in the clear water or should I say schooling in the clear water.  The bass are have been deep this week at about 10-12ft and hard to see.  This should improve as in the next few days if we do not get a thunderstorm.  It is time to go bass fishing.  Capt'n Mike

04/13/04  This might be the best week of the season, with the weather warming there should really be some lunkers being caught this week.  Capt'n Mike

Mike,

Here’s a picture of the 10lb 4.8 ounce fish that I caught with Joe Pierce on the 6th.  Water was stained and Joe really worked to find a trophy to throw at.  All will be glad to know she is back in the lake and still growing.  I am planning on getting a replica, I hope I talked another angler into getting a replica on Good Friday, he had an 11.4.

I would like to second what Kevin says about catch and release.  Alan Henry is a real treasure and we need to  preserve it.  I am attaching the picture of a 8.1 lb. beauty that I caught on Good Friday.
She was fooled by a green pumpkin senko with black flake fished weightless.  It was a great day of fishing.

04/12/04 This should be a great week as soon as this cold weather leaves the area, the bass are ready.  The cold weekend slowed down some fishermen but there were still some nice fish caught in the 10# range.  Everything should improve this week.  Capt'n Mike

Here are the pics of the 11lbs and 9 oz caught at Henry on April 6th.

Thanks,
Shane

Mike, i do enjoy this site, but one thing always gets to me and that is seeing spectactular quality of fish (which you all are so lucky to have) in jepordy due folks constantly keeping these big fish. I know the majority of anglers know enough and are aware of reasons why to catch and release, but some aren't... Reasons why i say this is i see quite a few fisherman holding these big fish and photos on your site up in the parking lot or up the ramp, at camp sites or at the motel in there livewells. Which i would almost bet are going to the taxidermist, into fillets, or worse yet sit in someones freezer forever and do nothing. I realize catching a trophy is an exciting event, but maybe you could promote and introduce the idea to some regarding reproduction mounts by taking measurements and photos out on the lake so they can be released. Alot of folks may just not be aware of fiberglass repros. which these days you just cant tell the differerance between a reproduction and real fish mount. Anyway, just my 2 cents. I would love to see the quality of this lake last as long as possible and with everyones help you could do just that. Take care, good fising. Kevin

04/07/04  The lake has caught about 2ft of water, it is fairly clear though.  The new water has probably delayed the spawn, they still seem to be stagging.  Today and tomorrow might be good fishing but cold weather is heading our way for the weekend.  That should hold'em or even set things back a bit on the spawn.  If it warms up this next week the 99.5 Bear Bass for Cash Tournament should be a good one.  As many 10# bass that are in this lake, catching a 9.95# bass is a real possiblity.  A good set of scales and a $50 entry fee {before April 12} might be a good  investment.  The catfishing has been fair with crappie improving.  Capt'n Mike

04/04/04  Lake Fork look out, Lake Alan Henry is ready to take over as the premier bass lake in the Lone Star State;  Sun Country out of Albuquque, New Mexico { www.suncountrybass.com  }  boated and weighed over 1800# of bass in a 2 day tournament.  One guy said this is the first time I have caught over 50# of fish and lost.  The winner caught over 72# in 2 days and that is good for a 5  fish limit per day.  Last week the lake produce another record bass of 14.9# just under the lake record.  Capt'n Mike

04/03/04  Well the weather won the day but some big ones were caught, a 12 plus big fish and 31# for total catch, not bad in the first day of a 2 day tournament for Sun Country..  Capt'n Mike

04/02/04  If you would like to see some real big bass, come to the boat ramp around 2 or 3 pm Saturday and watch the weigh ins, there should be some real big ones caught Saturday.  This week a lot of big fish have been spotted and some caught, 10# plus.  The catfish and crappie are also showing some promise.  Capt'n Mike

03/30/04 It must be gobal warming, its time to go fishing, seeing alot on the beds and the water is clear, bring your glasses.  Capt'n Mike

03/24/04  Definitely seeing some bass on beds in the upper creeks, and the catfish are biting.  These warm days are speeding things up but remember this West Texas and we have not seen the last of the cold weather.  Capt'n Mike

03/23/04  Well most people scatched this past week, Sunday afternoon the fishing was better with an 11# reported.  The water temp varys from 54 to 68 in the warm evenings, but its not constant.  You need to fish up at the end of the creeks to get into the 60's.  It is still early, the bass are still in the staging mode.  Capt'n Mike

03/19/04  If I were you I would go fishing this weekend, especially Saturday.  The weather looks good with front coming though on late Saturday night.  The warm weather this week should cause some activity.  I know every true fisherman out there can't wait for this lake to turn on.  I feel that the lake record will fall this year.  The water is getting clearer but it still a little murky.  Capt'n Mike

03/17/04  Lots of people going to the lake today, hope the fishing is good.  It has been rather slow.  Please help me keep up with rising temperature.  Capt'n Mike

the Catfish were biting last weekend this one is a 32.2 lbs channel cat (was weighed at Grubs).Watch your rods carefully the next one might be yours!! Good luck in your fishing and cya on the water! Ralph Wilkins

03/9/04  This last weekend there was a 3 fish tournament and nobody caught their 3 fish, but a 12# caught by Ben Kirkpatrick won the tournament.  So all and all pretty slow, the crappie are trying but the new water is holding them back.  The catfishing has been excellent.  Capt'n Mike

Hey'all Things on the pier have been real slow since monday...the last large bite that I saw on the pier or heard about was monday 3/1/04 before the bad weather, when I caught a 13'' 1.5lb monster Crappie...I got a pic. Jeff and I were kinda killin the crappies again monday night as he caught 5-6 fish rangin from 9-11" but under a pound each , and my 3 that were 13",12" and 12 1/2." we only have one crappie pic taken with a digi camera but atleast 15 pics of great fish from the earlier part of the season when the film on the other cam gets developed. The water has been a dark merky color with few bites seen on the pier. by the way does anyone have any info or stats on that fishing tournament. Winning fish size(s) weight? anyhow catch ya'll later on the water.
mike
p.s. pic is of me holding 1.5 lb crappie at 13"

03/05/04  Water has been coming into the lake from all tributaries, we are seeing about a 2ft rise, so the tournament will be fun this weekend.  Capt'n Mike

PS try a shadow. they were working before the rain but anything probably goes this coming week.

Words of wisdom from one of ole Capt'n Mike's friends, if you are finned by a catfish take and rub the belly of the catfish over finned spot and it will help stop the pain.  I am sure I will try it before the summer is out. Capt'n Mike

On Saturday, Feb. 28, we caught a 7.2lb bass on a yellow bomber water dog, a
5.5 lb bass on a fluorescent green rattletrap and a 4.3 lb bass on a blue
rattletrap.  No other bites or catches.

Keith

03/01/04  Lots of people trying but not cigar this past weekend, there were some fish caught but not many and not any size.  The crappie are at about 16 to 18 ft and holding.  Capt'n Mike

I sure appreciate your fishing reports for Alan Henry.  I was at the lake this Thursday (Feb. 19th).  The wind was blowing 50 mph, but I did find some fish around the boat ramp and dock.  I caught 3 fish in 45 minutes – all were 15-16 inches and shaped like footballs.  One of them had three minnows in its mouth.  I guess the wind blew the bait into the protected pocket there by the boat ramp, and the bass were eating their fill.  It was fun while it lasted, but the wind shifted and made casting almost impossible.   I was encouraged by the activity, but can’t wait for the warmer days of March and April to get here.

Thanks again for your reports! Steve Winger

Subject: Fishing report For Late monday- Early Tuesday Morning
Capt'n mike and friends,
As many know our faces from the pier a lot,  On Late monday night ending in the wee hours of tuesday morning myself Mike Krawitzky and my buddies Jeff Hoemberg and Charlie McCartin caught a range of fish. I was fishing more deep than the others, landed 4 crappies ranging from 10 1/2 to 12 1/2 and did manage to catch a bass but broke the line as it was being taken from the water, it looked to be about 14-16". Jeff and charlie continued there Crappie Killin with about 10-15 crappie being caught but size was small rangin from 41/2'' to 10". Overall it was a great outing just as the storm was coming in to the area.

02/23/04  The were some pretty big bass caught this weekend, a 10, 11, and an 8 # were reported.  They are real deep and you are going to fish all day for that one bass.  Mostly spinners and mostly white in color were the order of the past weekend.  They are fished about 20ft.  Crappie and catfish are improving.  It's all going to improve in the next few weeks, I can't wait.  Capt'n Mike

PS here are some pictures of the early days of the lake from Capt'n Mike

02/18/04 Its been pretty poor fishing, its got to get better. Capt'n Mike

Fellow Anglers

                                                                  Its just about time.!!!!!!

These warm days will wake up some bass. The biggest ones will move first. !
My first clients will be on the boat within a week. I will post an in -depth summary of the trip. I intend to give my customers a lot more this year ; if the God Lord allows . We are blessed with a beautiful lake amidst this barren flat country. You really owe it to yourself to go see it and all the wildlife. Last year we had turkeys flying over the boat in the creeks. Birds of every color. Deer swimming across the lake. But most of all I saw more that 9 bass over 10 lb.s ....a few 11 `s ...12`s ...and  13 `s  !!!!

* Grub`s Bait has good people...good food , RV hookups and small cabins right on the lake.

* Getawayhomes has large nice cabin houses. BBQ pits outside , place to park plenty of cars and boats and chase the wife.                                         These folks are there to treat you good.

Im  J.R. ;  with  Hook Um Guide Service.
Im there to put you on some fish !  Bass & Crappie.  I post fishing reports on 3 major websites. I will give you an honest report of whats going on at the lake when you call or e-mail.  Full day..1/2 day....2 hr.s ``````it doest matter to me . I love to fish and help people learn how to fish. This year my sponsors are allowing me to give all my clients a small tackle box with the best producing plastic baits on Alan Henry.  I accept Visa and MC
and will even trade for something-as long as its not as worn out as me.
**************   This months fishing Tip   ***********
The  important thing in cold water is to fish slow.  Fish will be in the brush.  But most important is to  MEMORIZE the feel of your bait as you pick it up... Anything different than that...Set The Hook  !!!.....theres a bass just holding that bait....that's all they do when their cold.
Well     you can see Im bashful. Feel free to ask all the questions you want when you fish with me.

Hey mike just letting you know the bite is slow.  slowest i've seen in a while.  Fished friday and saturday nights at the barge.  They had a case of lock jaw.

02/07/04  I guess fishing was about 5050 as the following reports show.  Capt'n Mike

hey there..ive been looking at the site recently and took some adivce and used a white spinner bait with gold spinners. I was at the lake last weekend and caught 2 bass in the cove right by the boatramp. They were both 16 inches..had ahold of a pretty big bass ealier in the day while fishing off a rock ledge close to the boat ramp, but it got off..Just figrued Id tell you that the bass are biting and if you want to post you are more than welcome to.

Mike Modisett

Mike, Just wanted to say thanks and let you know we tried white spinners,
deep diving crank bait, jigs in 10 to 25 feet of water on the south side
near the dam with no luck. Our friend did catch one shallow on a lizard.
Maybe it was a bad area or the weather. It was still better than working.
Thanks again, Joe

01/30/04 This might be a pretty good weekend if you wanted to try some winter fishing, couple of fronts moving through, I am sure it will be cold.  Then there is the Super Bowl, fishing might have to wait another week.  Capt'n Mike

01/30/04   Captain Mike,

Jeff Hoemberg again, as promised, here is the picture of the 8 pound bass caught off the pier on Saturday the 24th

01/27/04

Captain Mike,

I was going through the Alan Henry homepage and came across your fishing report saying fishing was slow and thought I would drop you an email and let you know how things have been going for us.

My name is Jeff Hoemberg. My friends Mike Krawitzky and Charlie McCartin and I fished at Alan Henry over the weekend of the 24th, 25th and early this morning on the 26th . On the 24th I caught a bass that was 25 inches and just about 8 pounds on a minnow that was suspended 24 feet deep just at sunset. And we have been killing the crappies on 1/32 ounce jigheads with white panfish assassin bodies tipped with a white Berkley PowerBait crappie nibble on ultralight tackle anywhere between 20 and 30 feet deep after dark. Last night we caught two bass that were both about 3 pounds each, the smaller one being a spotted bass and landed 23 crappies all ranging in size from about 7 inches to 11 inches. I have pictures of the bass and of the larger crappies and will be more than happy to mail them to you once I get them developed.

All fish were caught off the pier.

01/26/04  Well the fish are deep and hard to find, the biggest bass that was reported this week was just under 8#, with a small amount of crappie action at the crappie house.  Capt'n Mike

01/20/04  The lake area received some much need moisture this past week, with most of the area getting about 2" of rain, the Brazos was running a little on Saturday, but doubt that it will make a big difference in the lake level.  Fishing  is still slow and will probably be that way till March.  About the only news is that the City of Lubbock who owns the lake has install new lane dividers on the boat ramp that were much needed.  The new ones take up a lot less space, now if they will just get the bathrooms installed that they have promised.  Capt'n Mike

01/04/04  Its been real slow though the holidays, with only small ones being reported.  Most of the bass being caught are on white spinner baits with gold spinners.  They are in 5 to 6 ft. water up in the shallow ends.  Capt'n Mike

Fished a couple of hours today and caught 1 about 16 inches in 4 to 5 foot of water.  Water temps ranged from 49.8 to 51.4.

Adam Batson

12/22/03 Not enough fishing going on to give a report, may be 10 boats in parking lot this weekend.  So everyone have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!!!!!! Capt'n Mike

12/09/03  I talked to one fisherman who had caught a 10# bass last week before the front, but Sunday he caught only small ones.  That seemed to be the story for everyone.  Too cold today, burr.  Capt'n Mike

12/8/03 fished yesterday before the big cold front, caught 3 small bass and a 3 lb all on Texas rig worm in 3 to 10 ft. of water on sunny side of bank.

                            Mike R.

12/02/03  Not alot happening, best bets are crappie in the evenings and nights, with bass on white spinners in morning and evenings.  Capt'n Mike

Mike,                                                                                                          Back in  Grape Creek I caught a small bass about a foot long on a bomber crank bait last Sunday. Plenty of fish on the finder, guess they just were not interested.
Forrest Turner

11/24/03  At 8pm last night not a sole was on the lake, or there were no signs of it in the parking lot.  I bet the fish were biting.  A friend last week caught several nice fish up the river using white spinners in the shallows.  Stay Warm and have a great Thanksgiving.  Capt'n Mike

11/17/03  The water temp continues to fall, but only little ones were caught this weekend, with a 6# the biggest I heard caught.  The crappie continue to improve.  The bass are moving into the shallow water.  Capt'n Mike
